Doña Nora, su sonriza, su ardor, su lucha y su generosidad me han conmovido mucho. Que Diós la bendiga y le de la fuerza para seguir adelante.

And for those who forgot... more on http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madres_de_Plaza_de_Mayo:

The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo is unique organization of Argentine women who have become human rights activists in order to achieve a common goal. For nearly three decades, the Mothers have fought for the right to re-unite with their abducted children.

In protests, they wear white scarves in remembrance of the diapers of their lost children. The name of the organizations comes from the Plaza de Mayo in central Buenos Aires, where the bereaved mothers and grandmothers first gathered. They gather every Thursday afternoon for a half hour walk around the plaza.

The Mothers' association was formed by women who had met each other in the course of trying to find missing sons and daughters, abducted by agents of the Argentine government during the years known as the Dirty War (19761983), many of whom were then tortured and killed. The 14 founders of the association, Azucena Villaflor de De Vincenti, Berta Braverman, Haydée García Buelas, María Adela Gard de Antokoletz, Julia Gard, María Mercedes Gard and Cándida Gard (4 sisters), Delicia González, Pepa Noia, Mirta Baravalle, Kety Neuhaus, Raquel Arcushin, Sra. De Caimi, started the demonstrations on the Plaza de Mayo, in front of the Casa Rosada presidential palace, on 30 April 1977. Villaflor had been searching for one of her sons and her daughter-in-law for six months. She was taken to the ESMA concentration camp on 10 December 1977.

The military have admitted that over 9,000 of those kidnapped are still unaccounted for, but the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo say that the number is closer to 30,000. The numbers are hard to determine due to the secrecy surrounding the abductions. Three of the founders of the mothers of the Plaza de Mayo have also "disappeared". After the fall of the military regime, a civilian government commission put the number of disappeared at close to 11,000.

<![CDATA[Feminist]]>

You can't really see her t-shirt but it reads: THIS IS WHAT A FEMINIST LOOKS LIKE!

According to Wikipedia: Feminism is a collection of social theories, political movements, and moral philosophies largely motivated by or concerned with the liberation of women. In simple terms, feminism is the belief in social, political and economic equality of the sexes, and a movement organized around the belief that gender should not be the pre-determinant factor shaping a person's social identity or socio-political or economic rights.

I think they're O.K.
If they don't give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light, that's right
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right, 'cause we are

Living in a material world
And I am a material boy
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material boy

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That's all right with me
If they can't raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, 'cause they are

Living in a material world
And I am a material boy
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material boy

Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world

Boys may come and boys may go
And that's all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they're after me, 'cause everybody's

Living in a material world
And I am a material boy
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material boy

<![CDATA[Tribute to Nick]]> As we say Italian... piove sempre sul bagnato.... or it always rains on the wet site. There are quite a few interpretations possible but mine is that if it always rains on the same spot, it just never gets dry.... and today it's a bit that kind of day.... Nick is dead.... or let's say he passed away. From Bujumbura to Caprezzo, 16 years of passionate relationship. Ok, Nick was our cat, the only one, really. He came one particular night in a quite particular moment and he left a bit in the same conditions. Rest in peace rafiki, and am happy you left us while I was in Africa again... not far from your origins. Nick was our cat. I guess we'll miss him. His soul rests under a rose tree in the land of my ancestors. That's what we might call "closure". Nick was our cat. Bye Nick.

And yes, quite a bit of a wet day despite the amzing human rights galore of today, from housing to gender, from environment to educational issues, I've been interpreting from and into all possible linguistic combinations. Exhausting but quite rewarding. The tribute to the Mau Mau translated into Italian was quite challenging, but probably as much rewarding.

So the WSF is still going on, much to do, loads of controversial impressions and discussions that go a bit in circles. C'mon people, move on from this totalitarist no-global discourse. We know it's all about empowering the outcasted, in a way, and that we need to find strategies to tackle the world's problems. So no actions yet, bat least quite a lot of dialogues, interactions, exchanges, debates and cooperation.... but we're still far from the goal. However... the human diversity is truly splendid. We do need to start with it, that's the bottom line, no humanity without self and mutual respect. The road is long but we've started walking.
